About this app

Welcome to the narrated driving tour of the Battle of Gettysburg, the most important battle of the Civil War by Action Tour Guide!

Are you ready to turn your phone into a personal tour guide? This app offers a fully-guided experience of the historic Gettysburg Battlefield — just like a local giving you a personalized, turn-by-turn, fully-guided tour.

Gettysburg Battlefield:
Explore Gettysburg, one of the most important battles in one of the bloodiest conflicts in American history: the Civil War. Here, Union forces staged a nearly impossible defense against Confederate attackers--and won! Walk in the footsteps of Civil War soldiers, re-live the battle strategies of the key Gettysburg generals, and embark on an adventure that brings this historic three-day battle to life.

Follow the Official National Park Service’s Auto Tour route from the convenience and flexibility of your own car. As you drive, audio stories will automatically pop up and start playing.

As you journey through the battlefield, you’ll also journey through time — following the harrowing events of the 3-day battle, as the two generals tried to outsmart and outmaneuver the other. You’ll learn about the bravery and humanity of individual soldiers. Best of all, you’ll visit Little Round Top, Pickett’s Charge, and the site of President Lincoln’s historic Gettysburg Address.

Good overall, with a couple of glitches. First, it told us to make a left hand turn off of Seminary Ridge onto a street that was one way. (Point 3F) Second, it failed to mention the cannonball hole in the barn while passing the Trostle Farm. That surprised me as it is an interesting sight. Glad that I knew about it from a previous trip through the battlefield, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it. If the narrator tells you to pause, pull over. Otherwise it will skip to the next narration.

Thanks for the catch about the left turn! It's supposed to say right (we just updated the tour and didn't catch that mistake!), not left. Trostle cannonball -- this is a great story! It was cut from the tour because of timing issues but we are planning to add it in as a "Learn More" in a future update. So glad you enjoyed the tour!

Only one hiccup in directions at Culps Hill. But very minor. otherwise, it was a great tour with great pacing. And we liked being able to do the battlefield at our own pace. Cheaper than a guided or bus tour. And I think the content is as complete, if not better. Got tip: Don't forget to check out the "Learn More" for extra content.

Directions are confusing. While trying to understand map we weren't able to focus on the messages at the waylay points. Once we got going it was a lot better. If there is a GPS signal drop, sometimes the notification to turn was late or at last minute. It definitely helped to have someone watching the navigation screen. The turns to get to Culps hill was late. At that moment we were tired and skipped that section. Some narrations were great and others were very general. Eg.Sickles position
