The Strip is highly walkable, although you might wish you had brought a car if you find yourself walking down the street in 100+ degree heat. Between the hotels, casinos, and clubs, there’s plenty to see on a Las Vegas Strip walking tour and it’s all pretty close together. The part of the street generally referred to as the Strip runs from Mandalay Bay Beach to the Sahara Hotel, covering about four miles. Even though that might seem like a short distance, we still recommend setting aside at least two days to cover the Strip since it’s so densely packed and you’ll want to make frequent stops along the way.
If you’d prefer to stay out of the sun or just feel like giving your feet a rest, there are plenty of other ways to travel around Las Vegas. Vegas has a monorail that runs up and down nearly the full length of the Strip, from the Sahara in the north to the MGM Grand in the south, only a few minutes from Mandalay Bay. A single ride on the monorail costs $5.50, but we’d recommend getting a pass to cover the whole trip – prices run from $13.45 for a 24-hour pass to $57.50 for a full week. The monorail operates from 7 AM to midnight on Mondays, 7 AM to 2 AM from Tuesday through Thursday, and 7 AM to 3 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
There are also a handful of free shuttles and trams that run between hotels and casinos on the Strip, although these are mostly located in the southern part. If you want to make it all the way up to the Sahara, we recommend taking the monorail or just hoofing it.
