Prepare yourself for a hike through Central Park
Any potential visitor can make the biggest mistake when visiting Central Park by underestimating the park’s sheer size and scope. Many of Central Park’s many attractions are scattered throughout the park, which is 2.5 miles long and half a mile wide. Be prepared for a hike, even if the park is in the city. Wear good walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothes. Bring plenty of water and plan any stops that require tickets ahead of time—performances and admission to the Met can often sell out. There’s nothing more disappointing than planning a trip to a highly-anticipated destination only to find out you can’t go.
Don’t rush your Central Park audio tour. No matter what attractions you choose to prioritize, you’ll want to carve out an excellent half-day to walk through Central Park without feeling rushed. If you get tired of walking, biking is also a popular option for visitors seeking to cover lots of ground without losing time. If you need to cover large distances and are in a hurry, consider popping out of the park to take a train or a taxi cab. But for the whole Central Park experience, walking provides the most flexibility and allows you to enjoy the park at your own pace.
