How much time you spend on a Lake Louise or Moraine Lake tour will depend on what you want to do there. If you just want to see the lakes for yourself and snap some pictures, you can easily see them both in a day. We recommend reserving your spot on the Moraine Lake shuttle as early as possible—slots for 2024 open up in the spring—and planning your day around that.
Even if you’re seeing both lakes in a single day, make sure you spend some time relaxing and walking along the edge of the water. Both Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are some of the most beautiful lakes in Canada and some of the views can be truly jaw-dropping, especially at the latter spot.
If you want a more in-depth Moraine Lake and Lake Louise tour that involves taking some of the hiking trails around the area, you might want to set aside one day for each location. There are plenty of trails that start at both lakes, ranging from about 2 miles to over 10. It’s easy to spend a day walking the trails and just taking in the beauty of the Canadian Rockies.
Banff National Park, which contains both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise, is Canada’s oldest national park and has about 2,500 miles of gorgeous natural landscapes. We would recommend taking at least three days to explore the national park if you can swing it since there’s so much to see beyond just the famous lakes.
