About the Tour
Embark on an unforgettable journey along Louisiana’s Creole Nature Trail. Designated as an All-American Road, this scenic byway explores the region’s diverse natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Your tour begins in Lake Charles, and can be taken either clockwise or counterclockwise along the nature trail. As you head into this fascinating marshland, you’ll hear all about its most famous inhabitants, from alligators to migratory birds and beyond. You’ll cruise through the Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge, which boasts expansive wetlands and provides easy-access viewing platforms for wildlife observation.
Past that, you’ll find additional short hiking opportunities at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, with favorites like the Blue Goose Trail and the Sabine Wetland Trail. These trails are accessible and offer minimal elevation gain, making them suitable for all ages.
Then, head down to the coastline for some phenomenal views while you delve into the Creole culture and learn about their cuisine, music, and festivals. The trail passes through small towns and communities where traditional Cajun and Creole cultures are preserved and celebrated. Getting tired? Stop and lounge for a while at Holly Beach, the trail’s number one coastal destination.
Then you’ll head north again, back towards town. But not before passing one last hiking opportunity at the hugely popular Blue Goose Trail! Your tour concludes back by Lake Charles.
