After a brief stop at the gorgeous Wolf Creek Falls, you’ll head towards Fayetteville, listening along to stories of the town’s key role during the Civil War. From there, take a detour to the Concho Rim Overlook, where you’ll gaze out over a horseshoe bend in the New River. Look out for the ghost town of Thurmond, which you can visit later in the tour!

Then you’ll reach the historic mining towns of Prince and Quinnimont, where you’ll become an expert on the state’s long, complicated relationship with the coal industry. After listening to captivating stories of the West Virginia mine wars, stop at the Layland Miners Memorial to pay respects to those who labored in the coal mines.
On route to the village of Meadow Bridge, you’ll dive into the dramatic story of Mary Draper Ingles, who managed to survive for months in the rugged Appalachian wilderness.
