We might be a little biased since we love to travel, but we think Shenandoah National Park is absolutely worth visiting. If you’re in the eastern US and trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of regular life for a while, there’s really nowhere better than Shenandoah to find peace and quiet. As long as the great outdoors is something you’re interested in, you’re bound to find something for everyone at the park. Shenandoah holds over 300 square miles of natural beauty, so there’s plenty of space where you can get lost and relax.
If you’re looking to pass through and see the sights, then Skyline Drive is perfect. This highway runs through the park and offers plenty of opportunities to get out and stretch your legs while taking in the gorgeous vistas from atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. Skyline Drive is the only public road in Shenandoah, so everything you might want to access is just a turn off the highway. We recommend taking the drive early in the morning to catch the sunrise over the mountains and potentially spot some of the park’s natural inhabitants, like black bears, deer, or wild turkeys.
We recommend taking some of Shenandoah’s many hiking trails for a more in-depth look at the park. With over 500 miles of trails within the park, there’s a path for every experience level. If you head down to the river itself, the more adventurous among you can try out some whitewater rafting. However, for the deepest dive into the park and its history, Action Tour Guide offers a Shenandoah National Park Self-Guided Driving Tour with over 60 stops full of information. If you’d like to take the tour, you can find it on iOS and Android devices through our app.
