Yellowstone National Park is only a short drive away from town, so you can certainly take a Yellowstone tour from Big Sky. The western border of the park is about 20 minutes away from Big Sky, although you’ll have to drive for around an hour before you reach a station where you can buy tickets. Big Sky’s proximity to Yellowstone makes it the perfect place to stay while visiting the park, although you can also find plenty of outdoor activities and natural beauty just by sticking to the area surrounding the town.
For skiers, the main draw of the Big Sky area is Big Sky Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in the US. The resort owns about 5,800 acres of terrain you can ski on, so there are trails suitable for any experience level. As an added bonus, Big Sky Resort is located right next to the Yellowstone Club, an exclusive private ski resort for the rich and famous, so you can have fun knowing you’re skiing on the same mountain as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Tom Brady (or Dan Quayle, if that’s more your speed).
If you’d rather not make the drive down to Yellowstone, you can easily find plenty of natural beauty and outdoor activities in Big Sky as well. There are hiking trails, ponds, and rivers perfect for fishing, and a ton of open space where you can just relax and take in the gorgeous vistas. Despite its world-class amenities, Big Sky has also managed to maintain a charming, small-town atmosphere, so it’s the perfect place to chill and enjoy a vacation away from it all.
